What is a goniometer?

A goniometer is a tool used by health professionals (such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, and orthopaedic surgeons) to measure the range of motion in various joints of the body. It helps assess a patient’s flexibility and joint function, and monitor their progress during rehabilitation or treatment.

It can be used to calculate the range of flex in joints following injury or surgery, and as such can assist in physiotherapy.

How does vGonio work?

vGonio uses a simple two-step approach to obtain accurate measurements:

Step One – Capture position One.

Fig 2 – Hold the device at position 1 and tap the screen.

Step Two – Capture position Two.

Fig 3 – Hold the device at position 2 and tap the screen again.

Result – vGonio measures the angle between position One and Position Two.

Fig 4 – vGonio displays the angle.

What additional features does vGonio offer?

vGonio can also store the measurement results and can display them in tabular or graphic form.

vGonio can also maintain a list of clients so you can take measurements (and retain a history) for multiple clients.

vGonio is expected to be released on the Play Store in October 2023.

Please be aware that measurement accuracy is dependent on the positioning of the device, so for accurate measurements a health professional should be engaged to undertake a manual measurement.
